This homily calls us to reflect on our own personal commitment and responsibility to Sunday worship. Growing up the focus was on the personal obligation to attend Mass. Although I was fortunate to also receive and develop an understanding of participation in the Mass, this homily helps to focus on my (our) individual contribution to our parish community's celebration. It offers a different perspective and helps us see beyond "me and God" to "me and God and the community." "Me and God" are a part of it but not the sole dimension of it. I think this homily is a good transition to Lent as we move forward to focus on the journey.

I didn't get a chance to hear Fr. Vince preach this homily so I was happy to find it online. I agree that Sunday Mass helps me to order my life. I once read Kathleen Norris' book "The Cloister Walk". She wrote of how much she enjoyed experiencing the cycles of the liturgical calendar. Our lives also have a rhythm. The change in the liturgy during each season invites us to see the Mass anew, ourselves and our faith. I love the opportunity to look more deeply during Lent. Advent is a time of anticipation and waiting. Christmas and Easter are times of glory, awe and celebration. By attending Mass each week we can learn so much of our rich history. It does certainly help me to feel "right with the world."
